Christopher Ventris

Christopher Ventris will make his LA Opera debut as Siegmund in Die Walküre (April 22, 25).

Since his first engagements at the Glyndebourne Festival, Opera North and English National Opera, the young British tenor Christopher Ventris has rushed to international reputation as one of the leading interpreters of his repertoire.

Highlights of recent seasons include performances as Parsifal (Vlaamse Opera in Antwerp, Vienna State Opera, San Francisco, Seattle, Santiago de Chile, Barcelona, Hamburg, Covent Garden); Siegmund in Die Walküre (Cologne, Vienna State Opera, Teatro San Carlo in Naples, Teatro La Fenice in Venice); his role debut as Lohengrin (Bologna); Erik in Der fliegende Holländer (Antwerp, San Francisco); Max in Der Freischütz (Berlin, Cologne and for his debut at La Scala in Milan); Sergei in Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk (Geneva, Brussels, Madrid, Barcelona, London, Amsterdam, San Francisco, Buenos Aires); Steva in Jenufa (Metropolitan Opera, Glyndebourne Festival, Antwerp); Florestan in Fidelio (Washington National Opera); the title role in Peter Grimes (Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona, Zürich Opera House); Manolios in Martinu's The Greek Passion (Bregenz Festival, Covent Garden); Lensky in Eugene Onegin (Antwerp); Dimitri in Boris Godunov (Nederlandse Opera Amsterdam); Jenik in The Bartered Bride (Covent Garden); Jack in Britten's The Midsummer Marriage (Covent Garden and for his debut at the Bavarian State Opera in Munich); Clemente in Henze's Venus and Adonis (U.S. premiere at Santa Fe Opera); the Officer in Cardillac (Opéra Bastille Paris); and Lohengrin (Dallas Opera, where he received the 2007 Maria Callas Debut Artist of the Year award for his interpretation of the title role).

His future engagements include Parsifal (Opéra Bastille Paris, new production at Bayreuth Festival, Vienna State Opera, Valencia); Lohengrin (Grand Théâtre de Genève, Dallas Opera, Wagner Festival Wels); Siegmund in Die Walküre (Vienna State Opera and a new production at San Francisco Opera); the title role in Palestrina (Bavarian State Opera in Munich); the title role in Peter Grimes (Washington National Opera); Sergei in Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk (Metropolitan Opera); role debuts as Tannhäuser in Seattle in 2011 and as Siegfried in Munich in 2012; and concerts in Barcelona, Copenhagen and Vienna.
